A well being check escalates in Cambridge.

The Police Department reports that on Sunday around 10 p.m. they received a request to conduct a well being check on a male who lives in the 700 block of Oakland Boulevard. The caller was concerned the male was contemplating suicide based on a text message the caller had received.

Upon arrival the male refused to answer the door and was seen going upstairs. A female in the home told officers she believed the male intended to kill himself, that he was loading a firearm and that a 15-year-old was home as well.

Officers and the tactical team attempted to make contact to determine the man's mental state. The male called police  and said he wasn't coming out and do what you have to do.

After a period of hours the male wouldn't cooperate with officers and they decided to de-escalate the situation fearing further action would harm others.

Detectives consulted with mental health officials Monday about the situation and deferred to their expertise.
