U.S. Senator Rob Portman paid a visit to the aerospace center in Heath Friday.
The Ohio Republican took a tour of the Boeing facility. He stressed the importance of educating Ohioans so that they can be ready when job opportunities arise.
"They do have 16 openings here right now. One thing that I did get to talk about today was that we need a trained workforce in Ohio to meet the needs of companies like this one. Those 16 openings are primarily in engineering and technicians, " said Portman.
Senator Portman says that Boeing works with Ohio State, Central State and other colleges to provide training for jobs like the ones available at the facility. Portman talked to some of the employees about how their work helps the country's military.
"They seem to be on the upswing they are excited about that. I talked to some of the employees, some who have been here a long time some who are more recent. It seems like there's a really good spirit here they are helping to protect out country and their doing good work," said Portman.
Portman says that legislation he helped pass will improve programs that give Ohioans the necessary skills to be qualified for upcoming job opportunities.
