There was a bomb threat made this morning at Maysville Middle School, this was the second threat of the year. The first time was in mid January.
Maysville Director of Safety, Ric Roush, said that at about 10:30, a student notified school officials of a written threat on the bathroom wall in the middle school. Once administrators verified it was indeed a threat, they contacted the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office as well as the Newton Township Fire Department
"The first thing we do, as is our procedure, is we put our students on what we refer to as a soft lock down,” said Roush. “In other words, they are put in their classrooms. We kept them there at that point for approximately 5 minutes, just to make sure that we have an orderly evacuation, and then at that time we evacuated all of our middle and high school students to our stadium. "
Roush says authorities, along with a bomb sniffing dog, searched the school and nothing was found. Students were re-admitted into the building and classes resumed.
"We will investigate internally here at the school to see if we can determine who might have been responsible for doing this. "
Parents were alerted to the incident via an all-call system. The incident remains under investigation.
