911 Call in Drowning

Authorities release the 911 call that alerted authorities to the drowning of an Akron boy this past weekend.

The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened Saturday at a camp site in front of 3505 Stillwell Road in Dresden. The victim is identified as 2-year-old Andrew Howell. The family said that Andrew suffers from autism. The 911 call came in to authorities from the boy's mother, Kelly Howell, around 8 p.m. and crews soon responded.

A spokesperson for the family, Laurie Cramer, Director of the Autism Society of Greater Akron tells the media that Andrew wandered away from the cabin and must have headed straight to the river 100 yards away. Cramer reports his mother said she turned her attention away for no more than 30 seconds.

The Muskingum County Prosecutor is considering possible charges in the case.
