The summer season marks a busy time for one local organization.
The Executive Director of Christ's Table said during the summer months they see their children's meal count rise 400-500 percent. They also see their energy costs rise as well as they try and keep cool. These factors cause them to stretch their dollars further.
"We anticipate this. We know it's going to happen so we prepare for it and we make sure the meals that we are preparing are kid frinedly and we stretch our dollars just a little bit more," said Executive Director Keely Warden. "We know our meal count is going to go up."
To help defray the costs around 100 volunteers will help collect money and canned goods as five local stores. Usally the drive is reserved for November.
"We could not do anything we do here at Christ's Table without our volunteers," said Warden. "That's why are cost per meal is 25 cents because we have volunteers that help us come in and prepare the meals and then those volunteers in the community that are donating the food for us."
The collection will take place Friday and Saturday at both Wal-Mart locations, K-mart South and Riesbeck's on June Parkway and Howard Street from 10-6 p.m.
