Holiday Hoopla

The first week of summer camp at the Muskingum Valley Scout Reservation in Conesville has been kicked off without a hitch!

There are five weeks of camp with new scouts each week. This year is a record breaking year with 1200 campers and a festive theme!

"Well here at camp, we run things by theme, and this we chose holiday hoopla,” said Program Director Dominic Layman. “Monday was St. Paddy's day, Tuesday was Mardi Gras, Wednesday today is Christmas, as you can see me my pal here. Tomorrow is Halloween, all day Thursday, and Friday we are celebrating all of our patriotic holidays it's going to be a big ending to a big week.”

Though Coshocton County was hit pretty hard, with storms last week, the staff worked extra hard to be sure the camp was ready.

"The first week of camp really shows all of the training that we have. You never really know until you start and I was very very proud of our staff. We have had some things happen, we had a big storm come in, huge storm and it really hit here, we had hail the size of golf balls and staff did an excellent job taking control of the situation."

Layman says the most important part for scouts is building memories but they will also have seven periods of merit badges like cooking and swimming
