Kasey Klein Pleads Guilty

Kasey Klein has pleaded guilty to two counts of child endangering.

Klein was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of child endangering after her two boys went missing during a family camping trip at Ellis Dam just over two years ago. Klein and her husband, Richard, were initially found guilty, but both were granted seperate retrials in January of this year. Jury selection for Klein's retrial was scheduled to begin Tuesday morning but she decided to plead guilty at a hearing Monday afternoon.

"The court did follow recomendations of the state and sentenced her to an 18-month prison sentence on each count to be served consecutively for a total prison term of three years," said Mike Haddox, Muskingum County Prosecutor.

Klein's lawyer said in a press release that the decision to reach a plea deal came after Klein realized the risk of leaving her fate in the hands of 12 jurors which could possibly keep her away from her family for a long time. Her lawyer said, "her main concern is getting back home to her two daughters, Bryleigh and Briannah."

"She has 600-some days that she's already served in this case and has another 400-some to go back to prison to do," said Haddox.

Klein will serve out the remainder of her sentence at St. Mary's Correctional Facility. Richard Klein was found not guilty on all charges in a retrial that happened earlier this month.
