Do you have an old television or computer at home that's collecting dust? There's a chance for you to safely dispose of those unwanted items.
The Southeastern Ohio Joint Solid Waste Management District is having an electronics drop off on Old Adamsville Road at the recycle center this week. The drop off started Monday at 9 a.m.. and will end on Wednesday.
"We'll be collecting computers, T.V's, copiers, printers, cables, all types of computer peripherals," said District Coordinator, Robert Reiter.
Reiter also says that cell phones and stereo systems can be dropped off as well. The electronics contain certain chemical components that can be dangerous if handled incorrectly.
"There are certain heavy metals in electronics, and almost all electronics have some type of lithium battery inside of them that keeps the clocks running. That's part of what we want to keep out," said Reiter.
The drop off is only for people in Muskingum County and surrounding counties. The workers will check plates and licenses if they suspect someone does not reside in the selected perimeter. Reiter says that two electronics per person is the limit, but he will make exceptions under the right conditions. The drop off is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Wednesday.
