Pool season is in full gear which makes pool safety a serious priority for a local swim center.

Every year, Muskingum Family YMCA leaders go through a series of steps to make sure that the pool's water is up to the health department's standards.

" We go to the health department before the season starts. It has a training on what rules have changed and we go and attend that so we're up to date on all the rules," said Executive Director, Craig Miracle.

Some of these rules include checking chlorine, alkalinity, and algae levels for the pool on a regular basis. The health department inspects the pool at least once or twice a month meaning the pool always has to be ready for evaluation.

"We clean the pool twice a week Monday and Friday, we vacuum out the algae, and then most of the time we throw outside in there, but we also vacuum that out,"said Lifeguard, Joe Zarba.

In addition to water safety, Miracle says they want to ensure the safety of pool patrons. The pool requires members to perform mandatory swim tests before being allowed in the water and encourage them to shower before and after leaving the pool.
