The untimely death of Hollywood actor and star of Glee, Cory Monteith is a good example that drug abuse affects everyone.
Muskingum Behaviorial Health CEO, Steve Carrel says that just because someone looks healthy does not mean he is.
"He doesn't fit what most people think the stereotype of a drug addict is when in reality he could be the poster child for people addicted to painkillers," said Carrel.
Carrel says that the largest demographic for pain killer abuse are males in their mid thirties, who have careers. He says that many addictions start by people getting prescription drugs for a legitimate reason and then addiction leads people to abuse the substance.
" Being an addict creates stress and anxiety thus you use more to deal with that stress and anxeity, it could be money probems, any negative feelings can be numbed by the painkillers," said Carrel
Carrel wants people to know that they shouldn't be ashamed of their addiction and that help is only a phone call away.
