On Friday, a bus load of kids took a field trip to the Lorena at Zane's Landing and they were the first group to hit the river in almost three weeks.
"The water level is just right at the minimum height to where we can go," said Captain Bill Page. "But of course we're concerned now about the rain coming tomorrow. We hope the river drops enough to compensate for whatever rain we get tomorrow."
The school canceled the ride previously due to high waters and rescheduled for Friday. Page says there are a few things he looks at before deciding if the river levels are just right.
"We've got some marks on the bridge where we can tell what the level is and whether we can get under the bridge or not. Also, we call Dresden to get measurements from Dresden out there. That gives me a good idea what the water level is."
Page says he's happy to finally be back on the river. You can contact the Zanesville-Muskingum County Welcome Center for the schedule of the Lorena.
