Community members were outside of Walmart on Maple Avenue on Saturday supporting a cause for the kids.
Saturday was the Eastside Community Ministry "Stuff the Bus" event to get school supplies for local students. Last week, the group had residents fill out an application to receive a backpack and now volunteers are helping fill them by asking for donations.
"We are collecting school supplies for 800 students, 370 families and we will be here until approximately 2:30 p.m. taking in school supplies," said Volunteer and President of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Barbara Zirky.
Last year the ministry gave away 750 backpacks and volunteers say they are excited to do even more this year. Once all the materials are collected volunteers will put the school supplies into the backpacks for the students to take home.
"On August 6th and 7th we will be packing backpacks to be distributed on August 8th at Zanesville Middle School and that's where these school supplies are going, "said Zirky.
If you didn't stuff the bus you can visit Eastside Community Ministry on Stillwell Road in Zanesville to donate money or supplies. They can provide you with a back to school list that states the materials to purchase.
