The countdown is on to the start of a new school year for Zanesville City Schools.
Beginning this week buildings in the district will begin holding back to school orientations and open house events.
The first is scheduled for Zanesville High School and the New Tech students. It will take place on Wednesday evening.
The even gives the students a chance to find their lockers and walk through their schedules. For elementary students it's a little different.
"It gives them a chance to familiarize themselves with the building," said Student Services Coordinator Kevin Appleman. "The elementary students get their class list, school list of what you need, see the teachers, see your classroom and it gives them time to see their friends again."
Appleman said this is also the week parents should begin getting their children back into the school routine, adjusting to getting up early for the year. He also reminds parents that there could be some delays in bus schedules.
"If parents can just give us a couple weeks the buses may not be running right on time because we do have a lot of street closures up on Maple Avenue exit and some other places," said Appleman. "Just give us some extra time they may be running a few minutes late."
New this year fifth and sixth grade students that would attend Zane Grey Elementary will now move to the Community High School.
