The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced Thursday that an OVI checkpoint will be held in both Licking and Fairfield counties Friday evening. The checkpoints, funded by federal grant funds, are planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.
According to Sgt. Mark Leach of the Granville Patrol Post, provisional data shows there were 413 OVI-related fatal crashes in which 436 people were killed last year in Ohio. State troopers make an average of 25,000 OVI arrests each year, in an attempt to combat dangerous drivers.
The exact time and location of each checkpoint will be announced Friday morning.
