Due to some evening showers, a free jazz concert scheduled to take place at Zane's Landing moved indoors.
The Dick Simcox Big Band performed musical selections from artists such as Duke Ellington and Frank Sinatra for a large crowd at Central Presbyterian Church tonight. Singer for the band, Jennie Anderson says all the members of the band have different backgrounds but have one thing in common...Their love for jazz music.
"There are a bunch of people who are in there who have nothing to do with music in their everyday careers, we've got teachers in there and people who work with their hands and everything you can think of. I am a produce assistant at a grocery store. "
The band also performs for weddings, dance companies and paid concerts, but once a year they always have a free concert for the community to experience and enjoy jazz.
"I'll tell you what's most enjoyable about it is that I am surrounded by a whole bunch of people that love jazz just as much as I do and loving jazz isn't all that common. "
