The Muskingum County Prosecutor's Office said a Zanesville man has changed his plea to guilty in charges that resulted from a failed traffic stop.

Assistant Prosecutor Bob Smith said 35-year-old Eric Thornton pled guilty Friday to receiving stolen property and having a weapon while under disability. Three other charges will be dismissed at sentencing.

Smith said on June 10, 2013 authorities tried to stop a vehicle driven by Thornton. He failed to stop for officers and eventually fled from the vehicle. Smith said he was chased, but the officer believed he heard the sound of an automatic weapon and ended the pursuit.

The weapon was found by officers and tested for DNA. Smith said it matched that of Thornton. Thornton had been under disability for a previous violent crime and drugs.

Judge Mark Fleegle ordered a pre-sentence investigation in the case.
