Every year the United Way of Muskingum, Morgan and Perry counties kick-off its annual fundraising campaign. On Tuesday, over a dozen volunteers spent four hours in a training session held at Community Bank to prepare them for the start of the September 17 campaign.
"United Way is unique in that it's one of the only organizations that I know of anyway, that volunteers are responsible for primarily raising the money," said Executive Director of the United Way, Meg Deedrick. "They're responsible for making sure it's administered responsibly as through the board involvement. And they're also responsible for deciding where it should be invested."
Deedrick says this year's campaign has a great group of diverse volunteers, who they call 'loaned executives.' A fairly new resident to the area, Jon Renner says he wanted to find a way to get better aquainted with the community and says his background in the Marine Corp and volunteer work are part of the reason why he wanted to get involved.
"Well I want to do my part in the community and United Way is a very prominent organization here in the community and I felt I needed to give back," said Renner.
There are a lot of different ways to be a part of the campaign. You can call 2-1-1 to learn how more about volunteer opportunities.
