For some people, Labor Day is another day off work. But for the Edwards family, it's the perfect opportunity for a family reunion.
Larry Edwards and about 65 of his relatives spent the holiday at their family reunion held at Dillon State Park. Edwards says it's been a while since the entire family got together and from now on, he's hoping to make it a tradition.
"Today we are celebrating five generations of Edwards' who had their beginning in Perry County," explained Edwards. "As you can see on my shirt, these are all of our elders who are now deceased, but they have a rich long legacy. These are all of their children, great grandchildren, grans, and great-great grans."
The Edwards family spent the day playing basketball, playing on the playground and cooking out some of their summertime favorites. For Lee Safffloe, a soon-to-be member of the family, Labor Day is a time where he can get closer with his future in-laws.
"I think it's great. I think it's like my family, how we get together. Unfortunately, with the gas prices, I couldn't go to Chicago to be with my family," said Saffloe. "So I'm with my, I guess you could say, second family from home."
Dillon Park was packed full of other families spending the day fishing, grilling and soaking up some sun before summer is considered officially over.
