The Muskingum County Library System hosted an open house on Thursday to celebrate community partnerships.

Friends and partners of the library system met at the Carnegie Wing of the John McIntire Library to receive recognition for their contributions to education and literacy of community members of all ages.

"Emerging literacy, that's very young children, school age literacy and adult literacy, and we want to highlight the important outcomes occurring as a result of these really innovative partnerships, " said Assistant Director at the John McIntire Library, Blair Tom.

As a result of these area partnerships, Tom says that the library's children summer reading program for this year has exceeded expectations.

"Our goal was to have 3,000 summer readers and we had 3,064 and our goal was to have 100,000 books read by children in this 6 week program and they read 109,824 books," said Tom.

This is the second time the library has done an event like this and Tom says he hopes that they do more in the future.
