ZDGA Inducts Four New Members

Four new members were added to the Zanesville District Golf Association's Hall of Fame.

Ron Bucci, Bob Lewis, Mike McCullough and Russell Roberts were inducted to ZDGA Monday night at the association's 13th Golf Hall of Fame and Recognition Banquet held at the Putnam VFW. All four inductees said they got their start on the green at a young age.

"For me, it was my backyard in Coshocton, Ohio; the country club," McCullough said. "And I caddied on Monday and I'd play on Monday morning. Actually, I caddied all week and I'd play on Monday morning. So I'd be up at 4:30 in the morning and play as often as possible."

Lewis said, "I played biddy league football, went to junior high school and I wasn't fast enough to play football. So my dad was a golfer, so I'd go out and caddy with my Dad and fell in love with the game. So then I ended up living at Jaycee the rest of my youth."

At just 12-years-old, Ron Bucci says he hitch hiked his way to work as a caddy and says after hitting his first golf ball, he was hooked. Russell Roberts' fellow inductees call him "one of the finest golf superintendents in the state." He was honored for his 37 years of service at Green Valley Golf Course. All four men say they are honored and humbled to be inducted into a great organization.

"It's really made golf the premiere I think in the area because of all the money they raise and they give it all back to senior scholarships, to the kids and the youth," said Bucci. "And it's the older guys paying it forward to the younger kids so they can enjoy the game of golf like we did when we were younger."

The inductees were chosen based on their contributions to the game of golf and playing ability.
