Flesh Eating Drug Called Krocodil

There's word of a cheaper form of heroin called, "Krocodil" that causes the drug users skin to rot, coming to the U.S. Executive Director of Muskingum Behavioral Health Steve Carrel, says the drug is a mixture of codeine, lighter fluid, gasoline or paint thinner, and gets its notorious name by turning skin green.

"This chemical is put into a syringe and injected under the skin and starting at the injection site, the skin, essentially gangrene starts setting in," explained Carrel. "The skin starts turning green and scaly and eventually will fall off."

Carrel said the drug is believed to originate in Russia after drug users were having trouble finding heroin, they came up with the cheaper concoction.

"A lot of people say, 'why would you want to take a drug like that?' It's the high, it's the addiction. It's highly addictive and people want the high regardless of the consequences that it's causing."

Addiction is treatable and if you know somebody that's using Krocodil or has any other type of addiction to drugs or alcohol, encourage them to seek help.
