Thursday evening, a seven-year- old boy was struck by a car while trick or treating.
The Zanesville Police Department reports that at approximately 6:30 p.m. a young boy darted into the middle of the street near the intersection of Ridge and Schaum Avenue, where he was hit by a red vehicle traveling on the road. A neighbor says she witnessed the incident first hand and says she saw the boy get flung across the street.
"That's one thing I wish a parent will never have to see, to see their own kid hit by a car. It just breaks my heart and my prayers are going to his family, " said Neighbor, Michaela Weil.
Weil says she is outraged that there are not more safety signs put in the area to keep occurrences like this from happening.
"I think we need to have a crosswalk," said Weil. I mean there is a store right here next to me and there's a lot of high traffic and speeders all the time from the factories down the road from here . "
ZPD says that the boy was sent to Children's Hospital in Columbus where he is receiving treatment for a fractured pelvis. There were no criminal charges filed on the driver. Officers say the boy is expected to make a full recovery. The Zanesville Fire Department and Genesis Community Ambulance also assisted on the scene.
