Zanesville Police Capt. Tony Coury says drivers going south on Maple Ave. will no longer be able to turn left at Bell St. to turn into Walmart. Instead, drivers must turn into the parking lot by turning left at Balls Ln.
Capt. Coury explained, "Any southbound traffic that we have, we would ask that they pay attention when they get to that intersection. If you're going to Walmart, if you're going to the (Genesis) health plex or you're going to any store, retail store in that area on that side of the road, you must turn at the new entrance."
Capt. Coury says the change was made by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to help clear up the congestion at the busy intersection and improve the flow of traffic.
"It'll take some people some time. ODOT's made some changes along the Route 60 corridor over the last few years. And after people got used to it, it looks like they know which way they should be going which way they shouldn't. We still have the occasional out-of-towner that still gets a little confused, but it'll take a little bit of time."
There is a "no left-turn" sign already hanging on the Bell St. stop light. Coury says the turning lane will soon be striped to stop traffic from turning left.
