I-70 Tanker Accident Update

The Zanesville Post of the Highway Patrol says it’s still trying to figure out why a tanker truck driver went off of I-70 into a culvert this morning.  Troopers say that 53-year-old Jon Pierce of Frazeysburg was in the eastbound lanes just past the Airport Road exit when he drove off the highway.  The Highway Patrol says the Petroleum crude oil tanker was empty at the time of the accident, but its fuel tank did suffer a leak which had to be cleaned up.   The Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency were called to the scene.  The Ohio Department of Transportation has temporarily closed one lane of I-70 so guardrail clean-up can take place.  Troopers say Pierce was cited with failure to control.
