There will be a community pep rally at Sulsberger Stadium at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night to wish the 12-0 Blue Devils good luck at this Friday's third-round playoff game against New Albany. Zanesville High School Principal Mark Ulbrich says the pep rally is a way to recognize the team's hard work and show the players how much support they have from the community.
"I think it's really an opportunity for the community to come together to really show how much they support this team and how hard they've worked," said Ulbrich. "Because they've put in a lot of long hard hours that started really in the spring with lifting and conditioning and then throughout the summer with 7 on 7's. So these kids have really put in a lot of time."
Ulbrich says he's anticipating a big crowd for both the pep rally and the big game.
"I think there will be a lot of enthusiasm for the game on Friday. I think it was real exciting this past Friday and as with any tournament run, the farther you go into the tournament, the more fans come out to watch and really try and get a piece of watching history, and this will be history for the Blue Devils."
If the weather doesn't hold off for the pep rally, it will be moved inside the ZHS gymnasium. Zanesville will play New Albany at St. Francis DeSales High School in Columbus for a spot in the state final four.
