New Public Service Director

The city of Zanesville has a new public service director.

Starting on December 3, James Sawyer will replace Mike Sims as the city's public service director. Mayor Jeff Tilton made the announcement Friday afternoon and says he's excited to bring Sawyer on board.

"We have went through the process of looking at applications and went through resumes and we picked the top four, and Mr. Sawyer was our pick and we're glad and happy that he agreed to come on board," explained Mayor Tilton. "I think he will be a great addition to the city of Zanesville and to my administration."

Sawyer, who comes from Fairborn, Ohio,  which is just north of Dayton, has 20 plus years of experience in municipal government and says he's looking forward to joining the team and making Zanesville his new home.

"I was very impressed during the interview process and impressed with his (Tilton's) methodologies and the other team members that he has," said Sawyer. "So I'm looking forward here to joining that team and making a positive contribution."

Tilton says the reason for Sims' replacement is because of disagreements the two have had since he took office a year and a half ago. He says Sims plans on retiring in April of next year and says Sims has two options; either take a deputy public service director position until he retires or leave and retire early. Sims' official last day as public service director is November 29.
