The Public Safety Committee Meeting was Tuesday evening at City Hall to discuss important issues at both Zanesville police and fire departments.

Public Safety Director Fred Buck says the meeting serves as a liaison between his department and city council.

"We like to give updates, what we are doing, where we are at, at our departments, and what we need to move forward,” Buck explained. “In case we do need councils backing or approval of what we are doing."

The meeting lasted a little over an hour where many issues and future plans were discussed, The first focus was on the Zanesville Police Department and welcoming Interim Chief Kenny Miller. One possible change for ZPD is implementing a jail administrator.

"We have always done it in the past with police captains, the captains have never been overly anxious to be head of the jail and of the corrections officers, we are looking to have a jail administrator that has been looked at since about the year 2000.”

On The Fire Department side, the committee discussed how to make response time to emergencies even faster while saving money. The average response time is four minutes for the city.
