A family is left without a home after a fire broke out Thursday morning.
The fire was reported to 911 at 9a.m. Heavy smoke was seen pouring from the structure at 848 Dryden Road. A woman driving by was the first to witness the fire. She said she saw smoke and circled the block to check the home.
"I was looking to see if I saw any flames anything like that shooting out of the house and roof," explained Witness Certa Wade.
Wade said she saw smoke pouring from the roof in all directions. Firefighters from the Zanesville Fire Department brought three trucks to the scene and battled the fire from the roof. Wade explains why she called 911.
"The holidays are coming around the corner and just making sure everyone was safe in the house."
The Red Cross is assisting the family of Frank Paynter, Jennifer Cook and four children. Zanesville investigators says the official cause is still under investigation, but it appears to have been an accident caused by a space heater.
