Perry County Fire

According to fire officials, the fire started at 5 a.m. Thursday morning at the home of Robert Walker at 7294 SR 345, just north of Crooksville. Fire fighter Dan Rodgers says the two-story wooden-frame home was fully involved in flames when crews arrived, and says the family managed to escape the burning home unharmed. The Muskingum Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family.

"We actually have given them their clothing allowance because obviously they did lose everything and food and a nights stay in a hotel," explained Marlene Henderson, executive director of the Muskingum Valley Red Cross.

While the family's long-term plan is unclear, Henderson says the Red Cross will assist the family with more resources, if needed.

"We're just kind of the first stop to help them and get them going in the right direction to get back to a normal lifestyle as soon as possible."

The home is considered a total loss. The fire remains under investigation.
