Icy sidewalks, steps and driveways usually come along with winter, making even the walk to your car potentially dangerous. The Sunrise Do-It-Center is offering some tips on how to keep your sidewalks and driveways safe and prevent you from slipping and falling.

"You can put down a pre-treat which is called Liquid Snow Shovel which is good to 25 below zero," explained Dennis Baldwin, assistant store manager at Sunrise Do-It-Center. "It kind of catches it as it's going down or coming down, your ice melt will probably be your next solution and hope for a little bit of sunshine on it, and salt is the least for the cold weather. It doesn't do as good as the other two."

Ice can also be a problem on your home. The Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness suggests cleaning your gutters, as snow and ice can build up quickly. Baldwin also says to consider protecting the inside of your home.

"Make sure if you got water lines exposed, make sure you've got heat tapes on them, make sure they're in working order cause that wind and cold will freeze up a line in nothing flat."

The Sunrise Do-It-Center is located at 2129 East Pike.
