A Zanesville man is dead following an early morning accident.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at around 9:35 a.m., Joseph K. Ross of Zanesville, was driving westbound on US 40 when he drove off the right side of the roadway and struck two mailboxes. His vehicle continued through a yard and vaulted off a concrete bridge and struck a concrete wall. OSHP said the vehicle came to a rest in a water filled creek. Ross was not wearing a seatbelt.
An infant who was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash, was secured in a car seat and transported to Nationwide Children's Hospital. Following the accident, the westbound lanes of US 40 were closed. The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office, National Trails EMS, and the Ohio Department of Transportation assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
