An official from Zanesville Muskingum Port Authority gave the members of city council an update on their progress and future plans at Monday's council meeting.

Port Authority Director, Mike Jacoby says that they have completed the development of three business parks including Northpointe Business Park , Airport Industrial Park and the Eastpointe Business Park. With funding from the city the port authority hopes to embark on more development projects in 2014.The council motioned for a second reading to determine if they would help fund their annual operations.

" I made a point of thanking them for their past support, I think we have been pretty successful as a team between the city the county and the port authority the development of some of our projects we can point to at least 3,600 jobs, " said Jacoby.

Jacoby says the port authority is also in the process of applying for the U.S. EPA Brownfield Assessment Grant that would pay for environmental assessments on potentially contaminated industrial and commercial properties in our area.

"The reason to do that is to remove one more barrier to the redevelopment of those properties," said Jacoby.

The grant is federally funded and does not need to be matched by the city or the county. Jacoby says it's the first phase in a project he hopes will create business and economic growth. During the meeting council also passed a revolving loan fund for Muskingum County Recreation Pool equipment, they also passed an agreement with the Riverside Outdoor Soccer Association to use facilities and authorized the city to apply for grant funding through the Muskingum County Watershed Conservancy.
