After about 13 months of construction, Muskingum Recreation Center Executive Director, Beth Chapman, says the new facility is expected to open in early April. Chapman says the idea of a recreation center was first talked about in 2009 and says she's proud to finally offer one to the community .
"We have a very large exercise floor for cardio and strength training, a couple massage rooms so we'll be offering massage and then we'll have a kids corner for parents to drop their children off as they work out," Chapman explained. "So it's a nice amenity to be able to offer. It allows people to kind of get away and do what they need to do for themselves."
In addition to the group exercise rooms that will hold classes like hot yoga, Pilates, cycling, and boot camp, the new facility will also have two separate pools. Aquatic and sport manager, Susan Bowen, says the recreation center will have both an 8 lane, 25-yard pool, and a 23 hundred square foot warm water activity pool.
"It allows us to accommodate a larger group of people at one time," said Bowen. "We can accommodate swim teams and a population that may need warmer water for different activities."
