The Zanesville- Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce met with the Muskingum County Commissioners to talk about the Lorena Sternwheeler.
Chamber Vice President, Kelly Ashby, says that every year members of her office will give the commissioners an update on tourism and the economic benefits that the Lorena brings into town. For 2013 the Lorena provided nearly 200 rides.
"We had a great year. We had fantastic charters, school groups, we had leisure travelers from five different states utilizing the Lorena Sternwheeler. It's a fabulous destination and unique venue for Muskingum County. "
Ashby says that 2013 was an inspection year for the Lorena and now that it's cleared she says the boat has big plans for 2014. This summer they plan to bring back the civil war re-enactment that brought people to the sternwheeler last season.
" It was a great attraction for the area and it was fun to be a part of the civil war reenactment. It's a new group utilizing the Lorena Sternwheeler and it was just a new way for us to promote riding the Lorena Sternwheeler," said Ashby.
During the meeting fuel costs, boat insurance and profitability were all topics up for discussion. The Lorena runs every season starting in May and ending in October.
