The Nelson T. Gant Foundation will show four documentaries that highlight different stages of the civil rights movement.

The foundation received a grant from the National Endowment of Humanities to bring the "Created Equal" four series program to Zanesville. It's a way to celebrate the 150th year anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation.

"The first movie is The Abolitionist and this movie tells about the really remarkable individuals that risked their own lives and many things that they had in order to challenge the slavery system," said Jackson.

Jackson says that she hopes to see large crowd at John McIntire Library for the different showings. She says understanding history prepares society for situations that may arise in the future.

" We want people to be able to come and share their stories perhaps these film resonate with them in terms of family members and experiences that they have had, " said Jackson.

There will be scholars at the showing to facilitate group discussions after each film ends. The first viewing will take place February 22nd at 1 p.m.. The program is free and open to the public.
