A local women has dedicated the past 30 years to raising money for the American Cancer Society through dancing and twirling.
Maysville High School hosted the 30th annual Cancer Research Donation Baton and Dance Competition. With a basement full of trophies from her daughter's dance competitions, Patricia Dement Payne and her daughter decided they would host a dance contest and give her old trophy's away as prizes, and all the money from the contest to the American Cancer Society.
30 years later, the proceeds are still donated to the American Cancer Society and the competition features all types of dance including ballet, lyrical ballet, jazz, tap, clogging, hip hop, twirling, and more. Over 200 groups and over 200 individuals competed at Sunday's event with several hundred spectators in the audience. It is estimated that more than $100,000 has been raised over the past 30 years for the American Cancer Society.
