Dillon State Park will host one of the largest rowing championships in Muskingum County history again this year.
The Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championship is set to take place next month. The regatta will host nearly 50 high school teams from more than 7 different states. Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber Vice President, Kelly Ashby says the event will increase business in our area.
"Huge impact on Muskingum County. ODNR estimates that it is about a 1 million dollar impact on the area these fans, rowers come in and the teams come in. They are staying in our local hotels, they are eating at our restaurants and they are shopping at our stores, " said Ashby.
It is estimated that over 2,000 rowers will participate and more than 8,000 people will be in Muskingum County during the two day event. Ashby encourages the public to come out to the park to watch the teams compete.
" It is admission and they absolutely love and want spectators so anyone who is interested at seeing the rowing at Dillon Lake absolutely should. They encourage folks to come to Dillon and watch the rowing and watch all of the teams," said Ashby.
The competition will take place on May 10 and 11 for more information you can visit the chamber website online.
