A local relay for life team held their first ever Spring Craft Bazaar in order to raise funds for Muskingum County's Relay for Life organization.
Nearly all of the proceeds, 97 percent, raised will stay within Muskingum County to aid the American Cancer Society in the different ways they help those battling cancer.
"They purchase vouchers for gasoline to get people back and forth to their treatments. We help with food. In some ways they offset costs with medical issues, there's a lot of different ways that the general public doesn't see that ASC actually helps these families," said Brooke Carpenter, Together for Life Team Captain.
In carpenter's opinion, relay for life should be focused on year-round and she's hoping this spring bazaar will help do that.
"We really only hear about Relay in the three months leading up to it, which is the first full weekend in June and by having Relay information out year round, cancer is every hour so we need to be vigilante all the time and if this is what we can do to bring awareness to our community that's what we'll do," added Carpenter.
The next event for team, Together for Life is a chili cookoff, April 11th at the Juvenile Detention Center. To see more upcoming events or to join a team, visit www.relayforlife.org and search Muskingum County.
