Orthopaedic Associates of Zanesville is offering a special seminar to teach the public the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
On April 12, world renowned black belt fighter and instructor, Magno Gama will teach visitors of all skills levels a few moves. Dr. Karl Saunders says that learning Jiu Jitsu can teach students a variety of both mental and physical skills.
"These techniques emphasize skill, leverage and a very technical application of chokes and joint locks as opposed to kicking and striking or brute strength and force that are sometimes used in other art forms, " said Dr.Saunders.
Dr.Saunders says that he has practiced Jiu Jitsu for over a decade and has his purple belt in the sport. He believes his experience in orthopedics are an advantage when executing moves.
"It relates orthopedics in the fact that a lot of us like martial arts. It does relate because of my knowledge of joints and joint leverage, it helps a bit so my students always enjoy learning more about the anatomy of those things," said Saunders.
The seminar will take place on Saturday, April 12 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. You can register online on their website or at 8:15 the morning of the event. Entry is $30 per person. Their office is located at 2854 Bell Street off of Maple Avenue.
