Wayne National Forest in Nelsonville and the Athens City-County Health Department team up to rid the area of scrap tires.
The free event takes place Saturday from 8a.m. till 2p.m. at their headquarters located off US Highway 33 between the Plains and Nelsonville.
The event has the capacity to collect up the 1,200 tires which will be recycled. No tires exceeding 54 inches in height or 16 inches in width will be taken. Tires won't be accepted from tire shops, dealers or repair shops.
In the last two years the public has brought in over 4,000 tires. The public is reminded dumping tires is a felony offense in Ohio. The event is being held in the support of the mission of Keep Southeast Ohio Beautiful an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful.
