There was a mix of kung fu kicks and back flips at the Powerhouse Elite Cheerleading gym in Newark .
The non profit competition team, the Wildcats held their one year anniversary open house to showcase their newly learned skills to family and friends.
"It's amazing because a lot of the kids that tumbled today have never tumbled or done anything before so they picked up their skills within three months, " said Owner, Beth Rine.
During the open house, children received awards, there was an auction and even a karate demonstration given by Rine's close friends at the Annarino's martial arts school. Karate expert, Larry Dupler says the two sports have several commonalities.
"It's a lot of dedication in both sports. You have to be dedicated and put the time in, there's a lot of effort. It really gets the kids off of the street and into something constructive, " said Dupler.
