Its been nearly nine years since Sergeant Brad Harper passed away, Harper was in combat in Iraq when he paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
His memory holds strong for those who knew him best. Brandon Jones served with Harper and traveled from North Carolina to remember his fallen comrade .
"Brad's life was important and to just to let his family know that even though we may not talk on a daily basis, we still remember him through his sacrifices." said Former Marine Corps Sergeant, Brandon Jones.
Harper's family and friends started the Harper Classic Five Miler Memorial to not only remember Brad, but to support other military families, a cause that his father believes would make him proud.
"Deep down inside he was really serious, he wanted to do the right thing, he wanted to serve and he wanted to give back to his community and country, and I think he would love this," said Steve Harper.
Not only did Brad serve in the military, he was also a policeman and Tri-Valley graduate. Friends say he was an active member of the Dresden community and a fantastic athlete. Someone future generations can learn from.
"I think the biggest thing they can take is service, just the service to his community and the service to his friends. I mean as evidence by today, even now nine years later he is still the big of a piece of our community," said childhood friend Steve Clegg.
All proceeds raised during the run will go towards the Semper Fi Fund and the America's fund that both aim to support those who vow to serve and protect.
