On Saturday, the National Association of Letter Carriers will be conducting the 22nd Annual Stamp out Hunger Dood Drive. The nation's largest one day food drive.
Muskingum County postal costumers are being asked to leave non perishable food items near your mailbox before carriers deliver the mail. Suggested items include canned good, pasta, peanut butter, rice and cereal.
"We do ask that people don't put out their expired food, you want to make sure you read those labels and see if those cans are expired, and if so just toss them, but whatever people donate is really appreciated," said Resource Development Director for United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan counties, Audrey Foster.
The program is a part of the Operation Feed Campaign and all the donated items will stay in Muskingum County. Once sorted, they will be distributed throughout 15 area emergency food banks.
" We take in all the information for the pantries, the name, the information that the pantry would need and then we print that paperwork and we send that off to the pantry," said Foster
If you or someone you know needs to be assigned to a pantry, you first must call the United Way's 2-1-1 call center and referral line. Last year more than 18,000 pounds of food was collected locally to help our needy.
