The Washington Township Fire Department held their Mother's Day Chicken BBQ fundraiser Sunday morning.
Members of the department arrived around 1AM to fire up pit and prepare for a large turn out. Around 1,200 meals were served.
" We have a 4H club that comes and supports us and they bring about 10 to 12 people to help run the show," said Adam Siddle, Assistant Fire Chief of Washington Township." We have Genesis Healthcare, their trauma unit it here talking about trauma and their statistics, they're very supportive of the fire department."
For over 45 years the department has hosted the BBQ. It is their biggest fundraiser of the year. Eighteen members, their families as well as other supporters and businesses help to make the event possible.
The Washington Township Fire Department has plans to use the funds raised from the Mother's Day Chicken Barbecue for updates in communications as well as computers and mapping systems.
