The bittersweet news that the Bloomer Candy Company is leaving Zanesville is causing speculations that it may never return. Zanesville Mayor Jeff Tilton says he was not aware that the longtime Zanesville company was leaving town. The landlord of the Linden Avenue property where the candy is made -- John McMillen of Pelican Land Holdings -- says he worked hard to keep Bloomer in Zanesville. McMillen says his group offered lower than market rent and was working to upgrade the building where Bloomer was housed. McMillen says he would be shocked if Bloomer returned to Zanesville after moving to Columbus, but he really does not know what will happen. WHIZ News left a message with Bloomers owner Mike Ryan but was unable to reach him. Bloomer candy has been made in Zanesville for over 130 years.
