Miss Ohio

An Ohio University of Zanesville student who once represented Maysville High School as Homecoming Queen hopes to soon represent the entire state of Ohio.

Erin Curry will head to Mansfield on Friday where she will compete in the Miss Ohio pageant later next week. Mansfield is also where Curry got her break to qualify for the state competition.

"What actually inspired me was, I actually went to the Miss America competition in Las Vegas in 2013, and it made me realize that I could be one of those girls," Curry said.  "I could be one of those state title holders that were an inspiration for young girls just like me. So as soon as I got back, I registered in the first prelim that I could which was Miss Mansfield, and so that's where it all began."

Curry stays in shape as a member of the OUZ volleyball team, and she also coaches volleyball at West Muskingum. While she's quite the skilled athlete, the talent she'll be sharing for the competition is her voice.

"My talent is 'Brave' by Idina Menzel," Curry said.  "I'm going to be singing. My platform is called 'Leaving a Legacy through Time, Talent, and Treasure.' It's promoting volunteerism and community service showing that anyone, no matter how old, how young, or no matter what you have to give, everyone has something to give."

Twenty-five contestants will be competing in the preliminary rounds next Wednesday and Thursday with the top ten moving on to the final round on June 21st where Miss Ohio will be crowned.
