If you love gardens, the Beaux Arts Club made Sunday your lucky day.
The annual Art in the Garden Tour featured seven different gardens throughout the Zanesville area. For a small fee which went to the Zanesville Museum of Art, folks had the opportunity to visit all the gardens, including a nice display at the Dr. Increase Mathews House.
"Today, they're featuring the Memory Garden, or the Garden of Memories, that was created in memoriam for the pioneers and for settlers of this area," said Dianne Ischy, a member of the Dr. Increase Mathews Garden Committee. "The Master Gardeners and the Friends of the Museum have helped maintain this garden since it was put together in 1973."
Those taking part in the tour could also go through the Dr. Increase Mathews House and Museum while checking out the garden Sunday. Tina Wickline with the Pioneer and Historical Society of Muskingum County said the goal of the garden is to help pay tribute to how it would have looked in the early 1800s.
"When Dr. Increase Mathews lived here, they also had an herb garden out back, and the herb garden has been redone also. The purpose of that was so that they could use the herbs right outside their kitchen, and use that in their cooking."
Several of the gardens on the tour also had refreshments and music to entertain visitors. The tour wraps up a two day event of fundraising for the Zanesville Museum of Art.
