Zanesville and Muskingum County have a lot of activities and events to offer residents, but often times, we may overlook what's going on right in our own backyard.
A new partnership between the Muskingum County Library System and the Convention and Visitors Bureau aims to change that with their summer series titled "Explore - Discover - Experience."
"What we're going to do is have a speaker, an opportunity, that tells us about tourism or destinations in Ohio, and then have a local representative to tell us about a destination, event, or opportunity in Zanesville and Muskingum County," said Blair Tom, Assistant Director at the Muskingum County Library.
The first part of the series called "Hijinks and Home" takes place Monday, June 30th at 2:00 p.m. at the John McIntire Library Auditorium. Judy Cook will give a presentation about camp life and home during the Civil War era. A representative from the Civil War reenactment at the Lorena Sternwheeler will then provide more information about that event in August. Tom said the program has one simple goal.
"Make us all better ambassadors about the things going on in Muskingum County, so when people ask and we're out and hear people asking, or we have visitors of our own--family members--we are really informed about the kinds of rich opportunities we have right here in Muskingum County."
Other events through the program include a lunch cruise on the Lorena to learn about the Muskingum Watershed and a seminar about hiking in Ohio and Dillon State Park.
All programs in the series are free and open to the public. To learn more and to register, you can call the library's reference department at 740-453-0391.
