Construction at the Genesis Bethesda campus continues in preparation for the finished center's opening in May of 2015.
The project cost $160 million in construction with an additional $40 million for new medical equipment and furnishings. When finished, the hospital will have all private patient rooms, a new emergency and trauma department, ICU, heart and vascular center, as well as a new outpatient cancer center.
"The whole idea is the campus is being laid out to meet or exceed the patients' expectations for healthcare," said Genesis Chief Development Officer Al Burns.
Of course, there are some drawbacks during the construction phases. In addition to changes in parking and entry to the hospital, the fitness trail also remains closed.
"A lot of construction, a lot of construction traffic, and a lot of equipment on the site," Burns said. "We're very concerned about safety, and that was our decision to not open the trail then until December, until we get some of the other site work complete."
Before visiting the hospital, you are advised to visit the Genesis website at www.genesishcs.org which will have updated maps on parking and construction.
