A Zanesville man has passed away following an ATV accident early Saturday afternoon.
Sgt. Melanie Appleman with the Highway Patrol said they received a call shortly after 1:00 p.m. of a one vehicle ATV crash with serious injuries. When they arrived on the scene at Granger Hill Road near Briar Rabbit's shooting range, Sgt. Appleman said the driver, identified as 57-year-old John Stanbery of Zanesville, had already passed away from his injuries.
"His vehicle went off the right side of the roadway," Appleman said. "He reentered the roadway, traveled back off to the left, hit an embankment which caused the ATV to overturn, ejecting him from the vehicle. When the first people who got here stopped, they lifted the vehicle off of him, and that's when medical personnel arrived."
Crews from the South Zanesville Fire Department also assisted at the scene. Sgt. Appleman said speed is considered a factor in the crash. Stanbery was the only occupant of the Polaris Ranger. He was not wearing a helmet or seatbelt.
